St. Mary's School, Telenpali  Jharsuguda, Orissa, India is a Catholic Institution established in 2012 and managed by the "Shehadeepti Province" of the " Association of the Handmaids of Mary". The objective of this institution is to impart to the young boys and girls sound education under the care of the Sisters and teachers who regard it as a most sacred duty. Their aim is not only to train their minds but also to mould their character, promote leadership and prepare them to shoulder responsibilities, maintaining the high standard of honour in private and public life. It aims at building up a better nation of people who will love to face the challenges of life. It also promotes all round development, spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical and social.

In carrying out its aims, the school as a minority institution reserves for itself its inherent and constitutionally recognized rights of management and administration. Since the medium of instruction is English, students attending the school are expected to speak only English especially when they are within the campus.

The school year begins in April and ends in March. The course of study follows the pattern of the Central Board of Secondary Education (10). At present, there are 450 students on the roll from nursery to class VIII with 25 teaching and non-teaching staff.

The school had a very humble beginning from 3rd March 2012 with seven students in a small room of our community health centre, coming from 4 to 5 villages of Telenpali which was 5 to 8 KM away from our school. The parents of these children are illiterate and live in very poor conditions. They are daily wage earners. These parents are deprived of education. But they wanted their children to be educated in a good school and come up in life . Since it was a plan of God it came to be fulfilled. The present building was inaugurated on 6th April 2013. At present we have 450 students from Nursery to VIII Every year we upgrade the school to the next higher class and hope to do so up to 12th. The majority of the students are from SC, ST and OBC categories. We extend our service to all, irrespective of caste, creed, language or religion.   In spite of the many hurdles that the institution went through, today there is a  gigantic building with all the infrastructure in which the children keep singing the praises of the Lord.

According to Dr. Radhakrishnan, true education should aim at the opening of the heart, rather than the mind. It can be done only through the living, loving and inspiring touch which should permeate today's education. This is what St. Mary's has been trying to aim at.
 

Today my heart is filled with joy and gratitude to God as I stand with folded hands before the Almighty God, for the indelible impact of the pioneers, during the initial stages of the institution. I must gratefully acknowledge the untiring and selfless service of the administration right from 2012 till date, and the hard work and co-operation of the teaching and non-teaching staff that has brought the school up to this stage.  I continue to pray to God and ask for His abundant blessing on this mission.  Let St. Mary's School continue to be a torch that will dispel the darkness of ignorance and shine out steadily to many who will step into this temple of learning.
